Our Lady of Mercy Girls Secondary School Busia was started in January 1994 and is registered by the M.O.E – 40S300000140. A strategic Dream for the Catholic Diocese of Bungoma through Busia Catholic Church in which the concern was on the provision of the girl – child education in Busia monopolis and its environment. It is now registered as both a Boarding and Day secondary school. Our Lady of Mercy Girls’ Secondary School is a 3 streamed, girls’ day and boarding county school; registered by the MOE – 40S300000140 with an enrolment of 580; 258 boarders and 322 day scholars. The school rests on a 5 acre piece of land.

Thanks be to God because the vision has been realized evidenced by school’s alumniwhich include lawyers, teachers, politicians, doctors among other professionals.It goes without say that the sponsor which is the Busia Catholic Church under the Shepherd ship of Father Macellous Auma, has played a greater role in the discipline of the girls. The vices that are identified do not last at all because of the strong spiritual guidance, prayers and mass attendance that are part of the school paramount activities.
We encourage, motivate and persuade students to be focused and ensure participation in all spheres of activities with the view to explore, exploit and nurture their talents that will propel them to greater levels in this competitive world. We instill attitudes in the students by encouraging them to believe in themselves since their “attitudes determine their altitude.” The school has stood out to embrace team work which has brought unity and collaboration of stakeholders instituted by the school Board of Management under the leadership of our able Seniour Citizen chairman Mr. Peter Kubebea.
The school was started in January 1994. It was a dream come true for the catholic Diocese of Bungoma through Busia Catholic Church in which the concern was on the provision of the girl – child education in Busia and its environment. It is now registered as both boarding and day secondary school. The school was realized due to the need to have girls’ only secondary school in the fast growing town of Busia prior to this, there was only one secondary school which was mixed.
A progressive phasing out arrangement was made so that a new site was developed into the present day Our Lady of Mercy Girls Secondary as the boys remained in Busia town ship secondary school which is currently known as St. Mathias Boys Secondary School. The church, parents, local community and all other stakeholders collaborated to progressively acquire, construct and equip the basic facilities that are there in the school to-date.
The school’s enrolment keeps progressively increasing and currently the student population stands at 580 which has enabled us allocate four streams per class(Total 16 classes). The teaching fraternity currently comprises of 16 TSC employed and 12 BOM employed teachers. The non-teaching staff current establishment is at 13.
The school’s performance is average in the KNEC exams. We strive to improved the discipline and create a religeous and positive society evidenced by reduced number of early pregnancy cases due to regular guidance and counselling provision, this is founded on The societies in school include: YCS for Catholics, CU for Protestants and ISLAM for Muslim students.
There has been expansion of curriculum provision through introduction of Home science and computer subjects. Co – curricula activities have also been expanded in order to nurture student’s talents. These include: Music, Drama, Sports, Cultural and Talent show.
